I once visited Dubai and I learned that traffic jams are very common there. One bad night we (me, and a friend who was working there) decided to go and visit some of our friends that were staying around 40 KM away from our place. So we hired a cab and were really in a very happy mood (especially me, it was after 5 or so years that I was seeing them) even though my friend doubted any traffic jams might ruin our journey.

To be frank with you, it took us exactly 3 hours to cover that 40 Kilometers distance. We had to pass through jams two times. It was my first experience being a victim of traffic jam anywhere. Even my friend, who was used to such kind of experiences there, was sick of that particular experience. But finally, we reached our destination, met our friends and enjoyed two days with them.

looking at the growth and development part of this place, it does not seem that traffic jam can be a problem.This may be because of huge population.

This is the usual sight all over the busy cities in the world.You just can't help it,the traffic jams are the worst thing to happen in routine life.When everyone is so very busy,such jams tend to bother you too much.

After traveling to NYC and to Europe a couple of times, I'd LOVE to live somewhere where it is not necessarry to drive at all. I couldn't believe how easy and stress free commuting was, specifically in Europe. And if you want to drive, there aren't as many traffic jams because nobody needs a car.

It may have just been all the touristy areas I was in, but I loved it over there without any use of a vehicle!

Yeah traffic jams are a concern in any city like Dubai. Its because they have so many attractions. There are always tourists there because it is always good weather. This in turn means that people are always visit various attractions and going places whenever they are in Dubai. This all takes a serious toll on the traffic. Who knows how much the government has to spend on road maintenance.

Is it that the weather is good all through the year, we have a different idea that this place is too hot most of the time.Tourists do pour in the whole year due to number of reasons that is true for this place.

That is true the weather is too hot most of the time and it is very humid. But people go there when they have winter to enjoy the hot weather. People would rather be shedding their clothes and sweat like pigs than freeze in the winter, and it is winter in different places at different times, so that is why there are always tourists there, I mean besides all the commercial reasons.

The the inter-emirate rush hour is really really bad and horrible. For example it will take you two and a half hours to get to Sharjah which is only a 15 minute drive from Dubai.

Guess this is the price to pay for development. Luckily there are talks about a future metor which will ease traffic to a certain extent.

What sometimes worries you the most is the amount of time you spend reaching out to your destination.Though every thing every where is moving at a very fast pace, but the only thing that moves at a snail's speed is your car in these cosmo cities.

I guess this is the price of traffic girdlock that you have to pay for development. Hopefully, Dubai being so resourceful, may again come up with elegant solutions to solve these traffic woes although I would say that is highly unlikely unfortunately
