Default Architecture in Dubai

I remember reading about Dubai and I seem to remember a lot of references to old buildings, Mosques, houses and other generally interesting forms of architecture. I’ve always been interested in historical architecture. I’ve read books about Frank Llyod Wright, and at one point was considering getting into architecture. Does anyone know a website that has pictures or descriptions of historical buildings in Dubai?

Thanks!

They have amazing architecture. First there's all the islamic architecture, which is beautiful. Look at the mosques in Dubai, they're amazing. Then there's all the foreign investment. Businesses around the world are trying to make their mark so they make quite an effort with architecture. Finally, there's the tourist attraction. To maintain their heavy tourism business, they build the craziest structures.

The main attraction of this place is the buildings that are erected here and the historical ones which are very well maintained as the heritage of this royal place. It is fast developing country and so many structures are coming up and they make very fascinating structures, here tourism is a big industry so lot of stress is laid on the hotels.

The Jumeirah Mosque is based on the Anatolian style of mosque identifiable by a massive central dome . Other mosques in Dubai are based on the Iranian and Central Asia models with more domes covering different areas of the mosque. The Iranian Mosque in Dubai is notable for its pretty green and blue faience tile work.

I love those mosques. I think they are beautifully built, both the historic ones and the newer ones. Their domes are amazing, like the jumeirah mosque. I like the different styles they have and their influences from different countries. But I think the majority of the architecture comes from Persian influences. And I think there is some Mongolian influence as well.

All of the Islamic architecture and the mosques really interest me. It seems like architecture over there just has a lot more detail than buildings in America, aside from very few specific examples. When I see pictures of a place like Dubai, the buildings look much more carefully thought out and planned, and the result is beautiful.

Some of the developments of Dubai Architecture are quite encouraging such as the movement to preserve Dubai's historic buildings including Sheikh Saeed's House.

And of course in the 2000s, there is a construction boom involving modern architectural firms.

I think other cities could benefit a lot from Dubai's drive for beautiful architecture. Some cities don't take enough initiative to attract tourists or to keep their own local people interested in the city. Its a real drag for everyone if the city looks like something a lawyer decided to piece together. It should be more of a work of art that inspires people when they walk by.

Do you know that the traditional houses, built with leaves and trunks of palm trees, were made in such a way that till date they are the best example of gulf architecture. People still get fascinated by the techniques used in those primitive days.

I wouldn't call that architecture But ancient house building techniques are amazing and can survive through the ages. One wonders how wood can be secured without nails.
