In answer to the above quiery, the UAE does have an Armed Forces. I personally had dealings with them and saw them daily on the Dubai Bypass Road. The UAE military is involved in operations with coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I presume, as with other Armed Forces around the world, that you need to be an Emirate to enlist.
